Manglik Marriage |
The Jhoota-Chori
The stealing of the groom’s shoes while the wedding is in progress is now not only the domain of the bride’s sisters. All young people (whether boys or girls) on the bride’s side get together to scheme a plan to steal his shoes. It is the ultimate heist of any wedding in India and has its own benefits. The best part of this game is the bargaining and haggling that happens between both sides.
The Post-Wedding Games
The end of the exhaustive wedding is, in fact, the beginning of more fun at the groom’s house. Traditionally, the bride and groom are denied entry into the house by the groom’s cousins until he offers them ‘substantial’ sums of money. What follows is enthused mock fighting between the groom and the cousins where the latter have an upper hand in extorting as much money as they can! Once the newly-weds enter the house, they play competitive games that are deemed to denote who will wear the pants in their relationship. Of course, it is all about the fun and teasing that the new couple undergoes.
The fun element of an Indian wedding, whether it is inter-caste or even Manglik Marriage, cannot be undermined. As the couples go on to build a life for themselves, memories of their wedding remains with them forever.
